With the 5768 [2007/2008] Shemittah underway, Torah observing farmers are rising to the challenge of observing Shemittah with great love, devotion and conformance to all its laws. The Sages of the Talmud long ago praised (Vayikra Rabba, Ch. 1) those who observe Shemittah in their fields and orchards to the point of stating that the verse in Tehillim (103:20) "Valiant Warriors who obey His words" applies to those who perform this major commandment that lasts more than an entire year, during which they do not cultivate their fields and orchards. Their heroic stand in observing this commandment in spite of the extreme difficulties of doing so is a credit that benefits the entire Jewish nation.
